November 2017 - It's about Value for Money
For the first time in 6½ years we have had to increase our supply and delivery prices.
Steve Evans, rekk Founder and Managing Director says “There is never a good time to increase prices. Since the last increase over 6½ years ago our costs have continually risen and, more recently, prices and exchange rates on imports have gone against us too”
“But one thing I will do to help is to offer all-inclusive quotations fixed for at least 12 months to give you time to secure your funding without the target moving”
September 2017 - Seen but no longer Heard!
We were first to offer a solar powered Bluetooth® speaker in our youth shelters to allow Teenagers to stream tunes from their mobile devices to share with their friends. However, with the quality of mobile phone speakers improving all the time we’ve decided to devote the limited, integral locations within our shelter designs to our C™ SOLAR safety lighting option. This enables young people to see and be seen and increases the choice of safe, cost-effective youth shelter locations
Steve Evans, rekk Founder and Managing Director says “Our innovative solar powered PLAYA™ Bluetooth® speaker was designed as an entertainment option to attract more young people to their shelter. That role is now well and truly served by their own mobile devices so we’ve decided that the limited integral positions within our shelter structures are best devoted to our leading C™ SOLAR safety light option”
March 2016 - Mod™ = Modern or Modular?
The short answer is both!
For many years, when asked, we’ve supplied Customers with standalone benches to complement their rekk youth shelter but didn’t advertise the fact
But all that’s changed and now we’ve put together the Mod™ range of socially responsible community benches
Steve Evans, rekk Founder and Managing Director says “There’s always been interest in the occasional standalone bench in the same strong yet elegant style as our shelter seating and we’ve been happy to oblige but have kept our marketing focus on the shelters themselves”
“Now, as part of our push to encourage Council’s to EXTEND the community benefits of existing active play and sport facilities by ADDING a youth shelter, we’re introducing the Mod™ range of benches to help them achieve the same objective”
October 2015 - Growing Together with rekk
We were selected through competitive tender to provide youth shelters in two locations for Growing Together, the Lottery funded Big Local Programme in Northampton.
Steve Evans, rekk Founder and Managing Director says “We already had several installations in and around Northampton which meant we had advocates within both the Council and Police”
“Neither project was straightforward (with one requiring significant groundwork) but we are youth shelter specialists and were able to demonstrate a high level of experience and achievement to the selection panel”
“As all our Customers expect, the installations were completed on time and at the agreed fixed price and Peter Strachan, the Programme Manager, said I'd have no hesitation about recommending rekk to anyone thinking about doing a youth shelter project”
June 2014 - See the difference
In keeping with state-of- the-art technology our leading solar powered safety light option has been upgraded from separate LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) to an LED bar.
Steve Evans, rekk Founder and Managing Director says “It’s been 10 years since we were the first company to offer solar powered safety lights in youth shelters and we’ve regularly updated the design and technology to make sure our Customers benefit from the best performance possible”
”The new LED bar is a more efficient light source. Using less energy means the unit is capable of allowing young people to see and be seen for longer”
“We’ve also upgraded the EMS (Energy Management System) including new operating software but, despite the cost increases, we’ve kept the price of this popular option the same”
The rekk solar powered C™ SOLAR automatic safety light is available as an integral option in all rekk youth shelter designs
October 2013 - Freezing to 2015?
Two years ago we announced a price freeze to March 2014. And the even better news is that we're extrending it to March 2015! Managing Director and Founder, Steve Evans, explains:
"Following the 2012 Olympics access to grant funding has improved and youth shelters are ideal subjects for grant applications being relatively inexpensive capital projects, low maintenance costs, obvious when complete and with proven community benefits"
"But even with funding we understand the due process and time that can be required to make a youth shelter project actually happen locally and the last thing our customers want is to have to go back and raise more money."
"So if you're looking to provide a youth shelter for teenagers in your community within the next couple of years ask me for a quote and fix your price so you will know exactly how much your project will cost to complete. You're under no obligation to buy and the quote's free."
January 2013 - Fat Face First
When Groundwork Greater Nottingham needed a bespoke design for a youth shelter they called the youth shelter specialists, rekk Limited. The result was a modified Tube™ A12 design with changes including:
• Separation of one seating section from the frame
• Wall mounting of one side of the roof canopy
• One extra roof section on the wall mounted side
• Partial roof panels on the ‘short’ side to create an open aspect
And not only are the youth group and the local authority delighted but the sponsors, the High Street fashion chain Fat Face, are happy too. Steve Evans, rekk Managing Director and Founder, explains:
“The Fat Face charitable foundation are working with Groundwork to fund a number of teenage community projects. A youth shelter fitted the bill here and we’re very pleased to have been asked to work with them and Groundwork to deliver the first Fat Face youth shelter.”
June 2012 - Don't move, extend!
Bromham Parish Council decided to take advantage of the new Nclude™ A5XL design and retro-fit a new front post to their original A5X version.
Not only does this retro-fit create an even more impressive structure and more fixing points for options such as solar safety lighting and Bluetooth but it also provides additional support to the roof canopy.
If you have an Nclude™ A5 or A5X and would like a fixed-price for an upgrade that will be complete and open within a day please just let us know.
May 2012 - Show me the money!
We recognise how difficult and frustrating fundraising is at the moment but people are still successfully raising money for youth shelter schemes. How? Steve Evans, Managing Director, rekk Limited, explains:
“Youth shelters are ideal subjects to form local partnerships around and fundraise for as they are inexpensive, one-off capital investments that are easy to define, proven to work, quick to deliver and obvious to all when complete.”
“Forming a local partnership is key. They are attractive to Funding bodies as they show the project is locally owned and supported. Offering any amount of matched funding is good too as it allows the Funding body to point to the fact that it’s own contribution has ‘leveraged’ an amount from third parties.”
“And we are easy to deal with. The quote is fixed and we don’t require a deposit. Just claim the grant against the agreed amount on the invoice when the job is done.”
We have a FREE 12 point ‘Build the Case’ summary and if you would like a copy just let Steve know and he’ll organise it.
October 2011 - Prices FROZEN until 2014
We have FROZEN our youth shelter prices until 2014. Managing Director and Founder, Steve Evans, explains...
"Fundraising is particularly difficult at the moment, especially against a moving target. So we've taken price increases out of the equation for the next couple of years to help."
"All quotations issued before 31 March 2012 will be valid until at least 31 March 2014."
"If you're looking to provide a youth shelter for teenagers in your community within the next couple of years ask me for a quote and fix your price. You're under no obligation to buy and the quote's free."
July 2011 - Extra! Extra! Read all about it...
The Nclude™ A5X already had a large footprint but for Pevensey Parish Council we gave them more – an extra leg!
Steve Evans, rekk Managing Director and Founder, explains:
“By adding the front post to the A5 and A5X designs we’ve created three locations in the roof for a C™ SOLAR safety light or Bluetooth PLAYA™ instead of just one”
November 2010 - 'Be the Artist' with rekk NOW!
Street art is emerging as a popular sub-culture especially amongst teenagers. Youth shelters from the only UK specialist company, rekk Limited, bring together in one, intentional space, teenagers and their passion for making a statement and tagging a place as their own.
rekk’s Managing Director and Founder, Steve Evans, explains “We were the first to promote ‘hands on’ art projects in youth shelters to encourage teenagers to own their space and our roof profiles are designed with this in mind.”
“Vivid colours and imaginative designs are attractive to young people of all ages and abilities and have the practical advantage of masking ‘unwelcome’ graffiti.”
“It’s quick, easy and cheap to do, the teenagers can’t wait to get involved and the exercise, and the beneficial effect, can be repeated time after time as the group changes shape.”
To support the development of street art in youth shelters, rekk have created a free, online tool called ‘Be the Artist’. Whether you already have a youth shelter or you're trying to get one, you can use ‘Be the Artist’ to show everyone how you would like to decorate it.
All you need to do is take a picture of some street art you like or create your own art online then go to www.rekk.co.uk. Click the ‘Be the Artist’ tab and follow the steps and you’ll be able to see what your own artwork would look like on a rekk Nclude™ youth shelter.
Your decorated shelter image can be displayed in the ‘Gallery’ and you can also email it to others or post it onto social networking sites to show everyone what you can do. You can also use rekk’s ‘Consultations’ pages to help you get permission to make it happen for real.
October 2010 - More shelter, same space…
rekk have added an infill option to one end of their popular Tube™ youth shelter range to create new Tube™ Ti versions such as this Tube™ Ti15S2 installed recently for Long Lawford Parish Council.
Managing Director and Founder, Steve Evans, says “Our Tube™ customers love the design and some have said they would like even more shelter. So we’ve listened and now we offer more choice.”
“The new Tube™ Ti youth shelters provide extra weather protection and give three more covered seats, all backed by an aluminium roof panel right down to seat level that doubles as a wind break and a back support.”
“And even with the extra enclosure, the teenagers still feel safe as the 3 metre opening and wide viewing angle means they can still see and be seen and come and go freely.”
March 2010 - It's the same but different...
With over 150 successful installations throughout the UK and Ireland, we now offer three EXTRA options in our distinctive Nclude™ range:
rekk’s Managing Director and Founder, Steve Evans, says “Our customers want a genuine choice of safe and durable shelters so their local community can select the one that suits them best.”
“We’ve utilised the flexibility of our aluminium die-cast connection system and the Nclude™ design to offer three new arrangements so now there are even more ways we can meet our customer’s needs.”
